Liverpool Home Shirts

Once Liverpool FC were formed, they originally wore a blue and white home kit until 1896 when the club reverted to a plain red home shirt that remains the base colour to date. As for the away shirt, the team largely wore a white shirt throughout the 20th century although yellow and green shirts became more popular on the road during the 80s and 90s. One of the most popular Liverpool home shirts was the one used in 1984 where the club won the English League, League Cup and the European Cup and it was worn by Mark Lawrenson, Ronnie Whelan, Alan Hansen, Ian Rush and Graeme Souness.

At the start of 1979, the club placed the white logo of company Hitachi on the front of their home shirt. Since then, the team has had many famous sponsors in the form of Crown Paints, Candy, Carlsberg and Standard Chartered. In particular, Carlsberg were the sponsors of Liverpool for the majority of their stay in the Premier League until they were replaced in 2010. In 2012 Warrior Sports took over from adidas for the club's shirt suppliers. Standard Chartered took over from Carlsberg to sponsor the shirts in 2010 which ended the 18 year spell from the beer brand. Famous home kits include the 1984 red shirt which was worn for the club's fourth European triumph and the 1986 home shirt worn in the club's 16th English league title. Other notable shirts include their 2012 League Cup shirt in which they beat Cardiff City in the final.

A unique chequered/lined theme on the front panel stole the headlines while touches of gold were also present on the collar and sleeve cuffs.
